The American Coal Council (ACC) is dedicated to advancing the development and utilization of American coal as an economic, abundant/secure and environmentally sound energy fuel source. The ACC advocates a non-adversarial, partnering approach to business and serves as an essential resource for companies that mine, sell, trade, transport or consume coal. The ACC provides educational programs, advocacy support, peer-to-peer networking forums and market intelligence that allow members to advance their marketing and management capability.

Founded in 1982, the ACC is unique among industry trade associations in:

  • Exclusively representing the collective and mutual interests of the entire coal industry – from the hole in the ground to the plug in the wall. ACC’s membership base
    includes coal suppliers, coal consumers (utility & industrial), energy traders, coal transportation companies and coal support service firms. Today, the more than 165 member companies of the American Coal Council have combined their respective voices to serve as the pre-eminent business voice of the American coal industry.


  • Serving as an information resource and advocate for the industry – not a lobbying group for any one industry sector – thus establishing itself as a trusted advisor to industry associates and investors, public policy makers, the media and U.S. citizens.
